A film capacitor, also known as a plastic film capacitor, uses plastic film as the dielectric material.
In a film capacitor, metal foils are used as electrodes, and they are combined with plastic films such as polyester, polypropylene, polystyrene, or polycarbonate. These layers are then overlapped at both ends and wound into a cylindrical structure to form the capacitor.
Depending on the type of plastic film used, they are further categorized as polyester capacitors (also called Mylar capacitors), polypropylene capacitors (also called PP capacitors), polystyrene capacitors (also called PS capacitors), and polycarbonate capacitors.
